NOWRUZ Unisex Sweatshirt

Our “Nowruz” design celebrates Spring and the Persian New Year (Nowruz) with a ghazal by Hafez: “The breeze of Nowruz (Spring) is coming from where the love is.”

Hafez is strongly associated with Nowruz, the Persian New Year, which is celebrated on the vernal equinox, usually around March 21st. Nowruz has been celebrated for over 3,000 years and is one of the most important cultural festivals in Iran and many other countries in the region, including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

One of the most popular traditions during Nowruz is the recitation of Hafez's poetry. Many families have a copy of the Divan-e Hafez, a collection of his poems, which they keep on a special table known as the "Haft Seen" during the Nowruz holiday. The Haft Seen typically includes seven symbolic items starting with the Persian letter "sin," such as sabzeh (wheat or lentil sprouts), samanu (a sweet pudding made from wheat germ), senjed (the dried fruit of the oleaster tree), serkeh (vinegar), seer (garlic), and so on. Families gather around the Haft Seen to recite Hafez's poetry, often using divination by randomly selecting a poem from the book to see what the year ahead has in store.

Hafez's poetry is particularly associated with Nowruz because it is seen as a reflection of the renewal and rebirth that are central to the festival. His poems celebrate the beauty of nature and the power of love, which are seen as forces that can transform and renew the world. His use of metaphor and imagery to capture the essence of the human experience is particularly suited to the spiritual and philosophical themes of Nowruz.
